Our Story
What's with the name?
Traditionally, a do-gooder was someone who meant well and had lofty goals, but may be naïve or ineffective. In a way, it was kind of a derogatory term.
We want to change that notion. We want people to have big ideas, think about helping others, and do good.
Along those same lines, sometimes when people say “you wear your heart on your sleeve,” it’s seen as a negative comment. It means you’re showing too much emotion or
are too open.
We encourage people to show their passion for giving back to their community, so all of our wearable products (shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.) proudly display the DoGooder logo on the right sleeve. This way you can wear your heart on your sleeve.
Help spread the word by taking a picture of you doing good in your DoGooder apparel and share it on social media.
Don’t just do good, DoGooder.
Why shop with us?
Good question. What separates us from thousands of other companies is not
our products (although we do have some cool designs), it's what we do after the
sale. When you purchase something from us, we're going to give a portion of the
money back to the community.
How does it work?
The basic idea is that every time you make a purchase, you get to vote on where we give back. You will pick from one of several general nonprofit categories and
at the end of the voting period, we will select a nonprofit to receive a monetary donation.
What are the groups we support?
When you vote, you will select one nonprofit category from the following list:
- Healthcare - nonprofit hospitals, free clinics, school vaccinations
- Hometown Heroes - groups helping families of police, fire, EMS, and military members
- Social Services – food banks, soup kitchens, toys for kids, clothes closets
- Education – education foundations, school supplies for needy schools
- Arts and Culture – local theatres, art camps, dance programs
- Animal Rescue – SPCA, local animal shelters
When and how much do we donate?
Honestly, we’re still working that out. We’re a new organization, so we’re making it up as we go! We would like to present donations each quarter, but we need time to grow so we can make meaningful donations.
As we grow, so does our community support. It’s like planting a seed now and watching
the fruit get harvested later.
